Hi,

you can remove the locator but you are better off drilling an new hole in the backing plate to match the new position of the locator.

Without the locator the the cylinder gets moved around and over time it will oval the large hole around where the pipe fits and this can effect the brake efficiency and pedal and eventually you have to replace the backing plate.

Thanks Terry,
I am struggling with getting pictures uploaded.
Not a valid file keeps popping up.

I've noticed this too, as I am putting 5/8 cylinders on due to new front discs. Can I just remove the locator? I noticed that my old cylinders dodnt have them either.

The finished product of the grey fleck paint finish for the interior looks good ..

Thanks Andrew. I was a bit nervous about it,  but very pleased with how it's come up.

Hi,

now that you can see the real side panels did you see anything in the repairs to suggest why they went with the flat panels?

Terry

I can only assume the original side panels were too badly rusted or damaged to repair.  The top panels (original) had 25 x 25 angle welded to them and the 2mm gal sheet was partially plug welded to the angle and then fully welded to the top panel and new floor.

Presumably too hard to get the repro panels at the time of the original resto, or considered too expensive. Admittedly, although I  consider it money well spent to get the proper panels,  two sheets of flat gal sheet would have been much cheaper and easier.

Wheels/Tyres / Re: Tyre bead leak

Hi,

The PBR Rubber grease is what I have here too, no longer available under PBR but is owned by Bosch now. The idea is the rubber grease helps the bead easily slide into positions on older rims that are no longer smooth. Normally i use a soapy dish washing liquid solution when I am fitting my tyres but a Tyre shop will use a milky white substance to achieve the same thing.

But with the grease being thicker it might also help with filling the small pitting in your rim that is probably causing so much leaking.

Consider putting a tube inside if nothing else works.

Hi,

they go between the brake hose and the caliper to help create a seal when done up tight.

Hi,

If the 1275's have even a moderate amount of improved HP or Torque then you should find the 3.7 diff from a Mini is a good compromise and quite 'driveable'.   Most, if not all the 1275' that I travel with have this set up for the long roads and even towing trailers they are good.

The HS6 might be a bit thirsty and with a matching large throat manifold will probably lose you torque. Even on a 1380 I think a HS4 is still acceptable. And in the groups ! travel with we tend to do 100kph or a little less as we aren't all running 1275's and 110 can feel like you are working it all the time and is just a little harder on the economy, but at times we might go a bit harder to get past slower vehicles quickly.
