Seat belt and seat mounting bolt locations
« on: January 18, 2018, 04:51:14 PM »
I have a couple of questions about locations of bolt holes for the front seat belts and rear seats:

My front seat belt inner bolt holes are about 18.5" from the rear heel board.  Is this a common measurement among all Mokes or did this change along the way?

My rear seat, rear bolt holes are about 7.25" from the rear heel board.  Is this a common measurement among all Mokes or did this change along the way?

Also, should the buckle end of the front seat belts cross over; drivers side buckle mounts to the passenger side of the tunnel?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

there is a difference between pre-1980 and 1980+ Mokes with the holes in the rear that I have come across before but it is too hot to go out and check. I maybe be doing a rear seat fit for someone next week that I suspect will be the same problems as yours. They also purchased a seat and found it didn't fit their 1978 Moke.

I will check one of my Exports for the seat belt mount but otherwise I am not aware of any changes for the front mounts.

Okay Luke, I was brave enough to go outside and take on this mission, in today’s heat, here are my results.

Measurements from my ‘68, little wheeler. Were ecxactly the same as yours.

However, funny as it may seem, the hole spacings on a ‘79 in my shed are,

Wait for it .........

Ecxactly the same as yours.

Cheers

Dev. (I think the heat might have got to me)

Thanks guys, would the buckle side of the seat belt be shorter in the rear than the front?  Am thinking maybe these belts are for rear only perhaps?

I wonder why minisport advertise the seat as fitting standard bolt holes when it does not?

Well Luke, here is the trick. Your Moke doesn’t have the standard holes for the inner front seat bolts, to bolt into. There is a bracket that bolts into the centre and you then bolt into the holes on that. Your to rear holes and the outer front holes should be there but you’ll need to fold up s bracket to go in the centre, for the inner front bolts.

Cheers

Dev

I have the minisport bench seat so no need for the inner front bolt holes.  The problem with the bench seat is the spacing from feont to back is much greater than the stabdard bolt holes allow for.

Just pulled it up on their web site and I know I’m going to be wrong but the picture looks like there are only front mounting holes and it just sits on the rear, not bolted. Is this the same with the one you have?

It is the same as per the pictures on the website.  Has two mounting holes for the front outter bolts and two holes for the rear inner bolts.

The rear inner mounting holes seem to be correctly spaced apart, but the distance from front to back is too great, the holes line up about 3” to far toward the back of the car.

Hi Luke,

The Gal bodies are different - I measured about 11 3/4" back from the heel board and 14 3/4" for the seat belt holes. I'm guessing that doesn't help you much... :(

Front belt holes seem to be the same.

That sounds like about the correct measurement for this bench seat.  I would have thought the guys at minisport would already have had customer complaints about this before now?

Hi Luke,

What did you end up doing to fit your rear minisport seat?  I'm in the same position as you were!

Cheers,
Jim

Hi guys,

Just a word of warning.

I just had my rear seat delivered and it expectedly doesn't fit my rear seat mounts (I have a 68 moke). BUT it also doesn't fit the front mounts either! I know that my rear floor has not been modified or repaired and unfortunately the seat mounting holes are approx 10mm too narrow for the mokes captive nuts.

Regards,
James
