Bought 8.4" disk brake assembly UK

I just bought a set of 8.4" disk brakes including drive shafts (landed $546.00). How long will it take me to install these in place of the drums/hub/shafts? Is this a matter of several hours for the average backyard mechanic? thanks.

G'day,
         I would say its a couple of hours per side.
Top and bottom ball joints have to be undone and
the taper broken. I'm assuming the new hub has
new ball joints in it. If not they will have to be fitted
and adjusted, bearings may have to be packed and
also the CV if its a disassembled kit, boots fitted etc.
 But its a straight forward fit up as your just replacing
what is aready there. Of course you'll have to bleed
the brakes as well. I'd imagine half a day if it is a
dissaembled kit and you took your time.

Shouldn't take that long, maybe a few hours depending on your setup in your shed, I find the time consuming bit is all the little bits I tend to do while I have the moke up in the air and it is easy to work on. I am n the process of doing the exact same thing to one of my mokes. Have discovered the subframe tower has copped a pounding so trying to straighten that out and reinforce whilst still using the standard bump stop rubbers. Bit of mucking around but it is getting there. Cheers dave

Cheers guys. The set comes set up with new ball joints, bearings and pads ready to fit. Guess it is a needed upgrade since I plan to drive it from Brissy to WA in the spring. The drums were beginning to be a pain to keep adjusted as well. Guess I'll fit my N12 dissy as well for the trip over. thanks for the info.

Hi,

there is a slight difference in the length of the brake hose on a Drum and Disc set up so just check the brake hoses when you have the steering on full lock.

If you have pot joins and you can pop the drive shafts out without removing the pot from the diff I would say it is two to three hour job for someone who has not done it before. With all the right tools and knowing what you're doing it could be as little as an hour.

Good move with fitting the disc brakes  .
Ive heard its possible to fit the calipers on the wrong side, so just make sure the bleed nipple is at the top Makes it easier to bleed.

always think about -if someone asks that question he definitly didnt dothe job before.
If you dismantle the whole thing you also have to had "retune" the degrees of the wheels/

(sorry i didnt got the right word in my brain in the other side of earth its still morning)

And then its also a question of what master brake cylinder is fitted now.

4 hands, the right tools its more than one hour and you also want to change the knuckle joints and do a regrease of the suspension and clean it. You also need new rubber <axlegreasesealer?>

But the new setup for the suspension / wheels you have to do otherwise its not done well. And driving can be dangerous!
