Wednesday - First Run
« on: October 22, 2014, 10:38:51 PM »

Sacrificing a good lie in, the intrepid early birds rose at 9am for a briefing on the day"s events:

The team headed out for an assault on the 27km dirt track out from Bendemeera Station to Woolbrook then on to the Walcha Road Hotel for lunch.

Your correspondent missed out on the first part of the day as Percy was in post-operative care, but by 11am the steering issue was fixed and we were headed to meet the team at the Walcha Road Hotel:

The highlight of Percy's day was meeting a lady who batted her eyes at him:

Lunch was a leisurely affair, and we meandered back via the Moonbi Lookout:

Early evening and nibbles at Moke Central. By this time Moke My Day and SaharaDust had arrived, as had Woody and several others. Sadly Woody had an engine failure on the way up so he's homeward bound on the back of an NRMA truck at 4.30 tomorrow morning. Bugger.

At the time of writing (10pm) Melbourne Rob has just arrived with his son Elliot and many more arriving over the next two days.

Pip pip!

Thanks for the pics and story, Homey - well done, and you've set the bar high when it comes to quality reporting!

And didn't the day improve when Percy joined the rest of the group  :)

Well done Homey.

Dusted off the cap I see to report on this event  ;D

Your certainly noticing the mokes a bit easier these days  :P

Shame about Woody- perhaps an issue that wasn't addressed since Perth?

Hiya Samm,

Sorry to miss you this time around. I was looking forward to seeing you add to your under-bonnet sticker collection! Will you get down to Tassie next year?

I believe Woody's engine was only rebuilt recently, but there's a chance that he may be able to borrow a Moke and get back here for the weekend.

Cheers,

Hi
Update on the Woody's Moke.
First thing it would not start distributor failed this was brand new. The CSI dissy was electronic with programed advanced curves. we replaced with standard points dissy, started lots of noise.
Head was removed found No 4 Piston hitting head. That is were we are up to do not no what was done today will update when I know more.
I would like to thank all for there support and best wishes.
Also every one at Moke central for making me welcome from picking me up and taking me back to the Motel at Kootingal.
A special thank you to Smokey (Stewart) and TD0077 (Terry) for there very generous offer of there other Moke for me to drive to Tamworth a very very tempting offer thank you Stewart and Terry for the offer.
Every day it seam that member of this forum are only to willing to give up time, knowledge, parts and also cars to use with out asking for anything in return I only hope I can help other with problems.
To answer Samm's question this is a new engine 1275 rebuilt with new parts except gearbox, starter and alternator also had the front end overhauled outer CV and swivel hubs and bearing replaced with new parts
It looks like the big end bearing nuts may have failed will no when the engine is removed and dismantled Brand new nuts.

That's a real bummer Woody.  Is there a plan to get you running again?

Hi Moke2b

Motor will be stripped down and checked
Crankshaft replaced engine balanced
this is all covered by the engine builder so will be off the road for a week or two
This depends on machining that may need to be done.
