Photos- no go
« on: July 23, 2015, 04:12:08 PM »
Admin, someone, please help! I have followed the upload a pic tutorial, I have even changed the pic formats, but nothing will upload. I keep getting error messages, either format not supported (jpeg) or session timed out (png). I have set up a gallery & sub gallery to no avail. Doing my head in!

Hi,

What is the size, in MB's, of the image you are trying to upload?

2.55 to 3.12 Mb. I have a few I'd like to upload, including an avatar.

Hi,

That is bigger than the server is allowing to be uploaded, 2mb is the max per file, so that is probably the first problem you are hitting as it uploads the first 2mb and then says this is too much and either gives you a message or not. The next limit is the Forum software rejects images larger than 1.5mb

If the images are less than 1.5mb then the Forum software will upload them and then they will be reduced and resized down to a usable 640x800px wide to be displayed in the Gallery and in posts etc. If you use a photo/image reducing software on your computer or device to resize before you upload them then the images work best at 600 to 640px wide and a file size around 150kb is ideal.

For your Avatar it needs to be 120x120px and I am not sure of the max. filesize but it is not much. If you upload an image that is not a square or is larger than than 120x120 then the software will resize it and that might give unpredictable results, but normally your image will be either grainy or 'stretched'.
