Are you bloke geniuses or midget's?
« on: May 07, 2018, 05:09:29 PM »
Ok so job on the weekend was to install new cones and hilos.

Rear no problem done.

Front looks easy enough on you tube.

Started no worries compress cones remove suspension.

Just need to drop out this top arm... Big bolt is a mongrel but doable... Then i discover these two little ones that attach the top arm via a plate to car... Front one a real bugger but the back one bloody hell can't get spanners on the under side as is at back of arm can't get a spanner or socket on engine bay one clutch brake lines in way!

Three hours later its off.. I have no idea how I'm going to get it back on..

Had a look at passenger side.. tell me it's easier because it looks like the radiator needs to cone out!!!

Any tricks, tools or tip.. You guys make it sound easy!

Why me!!

Hi,

you don't need to take the radiator out. :)

Without folding it too much, pull on the corner of the inner guard and bring it forward to give yourself a bit more room to get the spanner in beside the tower. Most Mokes have already had this done at some stage in their life so it will bend along the old previous line. On some of my own Mokes I have cut the lower part of that panel off like on the Export Mokes to make accessing the top arm pin, the brake lines and even the flywheel nut a lot easier.

The small bolt at the front is easy, just hold the head and undo the nut from the suspension side. Remove the large nut from the pin at the front and it gives you more access to the inside one.

I use a fairly flat ring 7/16, ones with an open end also tend to work best or my Kinchromes which have a shallow dog leg, and just undo it one flat at a time.

Champion Terry Thanks.. I will try all of these tips!

Do you use rachet spanners or those bendy screw driver thingos for hard to reach ones?

Hi,

just normal spanners, not much room for anything else.
