changing a gearbox. ratio questions
« on: November 02, 2018, 08:39:09 PM »
Hey guys, ive got a 1098 from a mini to put in my moke. Im assuming the gearbox will be too highky geard for the larger wheels on my 1980 moke.

The 998 engine on my moke is done and done (did i mention its done?) But the gearbox is ok.
Would the 998 gearbox and mesh with the 1098 engine and clutch? How do you tell the gear ratio?

If i leave the current mini gearbox on it am i likely to be over revving with great acceleration or will it be sluggish?

My wheels are 14 inch btw if that helps.

Thanks, Jesse

Hi,

with 14" wheels it is unlikely you will even be able to take off in 1st with a Mini ratio in the diff so the easiest option, based on what you have said, would be to take the gearbox from your 998 and put it under the 1098.

You can count rotations of the driveshafts or if you remove the diff the ratio and part number is stamped on the crown wheel.
