Hi Terry
thanks for the info about the the engine is there any way
to know if this motor was installed in my moke from
the factory or is there a possibility it has been changed over the years
of different ownership

Hi,

not really. There is nothing in the id plates that can help you but maybe a search of early registration records could confirm if the engine number changed.

If your Moke is built in mid to late 1975 then it is a fair chance it is the same engine, if not then it could be a swap over.

Terry
my moke is a 4/78 I didn't know you could do a search of early rego's
I know none of its history other than the PO purchased it in Victoria
when he lived there until he moved to  QLD where I got it from
can you do a search without knowing rego numbers and how do you do it
thanks

Hi,

In Victoria if you want to go back to records prior to 1986, or thereabouts, you can contact the AOMC(Association of Automobile Clubs) and they have the old card system records. After that if the car was still registered in Victoria after then, you could contact VicRoads and they maybe able to find any records going by the Engine or Body Number.

Not sure what the costs are these days, but AOMC was pricey I thought when they first started offering to do searches, but others may have more recent opinions.

Do you have any photos of the Moke when you purchased it?
