Engine Numbers
« on: April 01, 2019, 04:04:10 PM »
Hi can any one explain what the vin numbers stand for I have two mokes which I'm about to start renovating
One is a 3/77 model with number 018FOB1M09/17613 and the other is a 5/70 YJBAB8R/2709.
I purchase a new moke in 68, the first of the big wheels and did over 100,000 miles in it, wish I still had it, sadly I pushed it into a gully at Moruya on the south coast NSW years ago.
Thanks Jeff

Hi,

your subject says Engine numbers but you are listing body numbers so I am going to go with the Body numbers.

For the YJBAB I have put together this article to explain the basics, https://www.moke.com.au/about/identifying-mokes/677-body-numbers-yjbab

I will work on a similar article for the O18's over the next day or so.

All your questions, and many more you have not thought of as yet, are answered in my book "Australian Mini & Moke - 1961 to 1982" currently listed on Ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/264262642875?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

Terry thanks for the information. Yes I did say engine numbers and realised afterwards I should have said body numbers
