Inner pot joints

Hi can someone tell me are the inner pot joints lubed from engine oil or do they have grease in them ,

Hi,

they should be assembled with Moly grease, the dark grey stuff that gets everywhere. :) Normally you get a little packet with new joints that isn't that big so you don't need to pack the grease in like wheel bearings.

If they are getting lubricated by the engine oil then the cap inside the pot has come loose and needs to be refitted or replaced.

Hi, yep, the grease is a special one to take the high shear loads of the CV joint. I’d not recommend using wheel bearing grease, very different loads.

This is the cap Terry mentioned in the CV pot joint.

I have added araldite to a cap that wouldn't stay seated :o
