Australia 2020 visit
« on: October 24, 2019, 05:40:13 PM »
Hello guys, sorry for non Moke question, but I want to visit Australia next year !
We are planning the trip for January / February 2020 to Australia, Tasmania, South Island, New Zealand.
Please recommend me if it is better to be 5 days in Darwin, or in Brisbane ?! Also in terms of high temperature in January there. Then we will leave to Sydney and further. I have a Moke as you know, and I am comming with my friend, who has 3 Mokes and 1 Ant.
Thanks a lot for help !

Hi Pavel,  Great to hear your going to visit Aus.  I recommend you do Brisbane for your trip as the best way to describe Darwin in January is Hot,Humid and very wet.  On average Darwin has about 428mm rain during January. Day temp is around 32C. Night 24C. Humidity is around 75%.  It is a interesting place to visit with a lot of war history from when the city was bombed during ww2. But, I feel you would enjoy Brisbane better at that time of year. Have a great trip and enjoy our Aussie hospitality. I’m sure you will see and catch up with a few moke owners on your travels. Jan-Feb in Darwin is called the wet season or the silly season the humidity make people a bit crazy
but if you enjoy an afternoon storm and possible a cyclone go for it. Travel around the top of the Northern Territory is limited at that time because the local flooding

Maybe get to Melbourne on the first Wednesday in Feb and go to the MOA (Moke Owners Association) monthly meeting, mind you the weather in Melb then could be 45° or 15° depending on how Mother Nature is feeling. One of the members also has/had an Ant.

Tassie is great place to visit, plenty to see and do and lovely winding roads.

Hi,

you might find it is easier if your friend left his 3 Mokes and Ant at home.

I lived in Darwin for a couple of years and I think Jan/Feb would be one of the best times to visit as there is a lot of natural beauty to see with waterfalls running at full strength and the daily dose of rain makes it more interesting, but the climate is changing and it is not as predictable as it used to be. It has a more consistent temperature of 33-34 celsius everyday, never really peaks much higher like the Brisbane and Melbourne can, but it is a tropical climate so the Humidity can really knock you about if you aren't used to it. Troppo season Moe mentioned is only for about 4 weeks in October early November so you will miss that.  But it would be off season for the tourists so you would need to do your home work about what is available before you visit.

If you find your way to Melbourne let me know and I will organise some local Mokes to for you to hang out with.

And just so you know, Tasmania is Australia, not a seperate country. Also its the best part of Australia to visit in January.

Ignore Terry, get your friend to bring the Ant, I'll look after it for him. ;)

So how is sunny Sydney Pavel? I love Sydney.
Found any Mokes or Mini's since you arrived?
They finally get rain just as you fly in  ::)

I see Tasmania is your next stop and though Ive only been once, if your trip to Cradle Mountain goes near a place called Derwent Bridge, there is an Art Gallery called "The Wall" that is definitely worth a stop to break up the drive. Fascinating.

Tassie is a great place to visit Pavel, a drive down the east coast is well worth it if you have time.  If you get to Hobart check out the Museum  of modern art "Mona" at Berriedale, it's built into the hillside.  They have the wall of vagina's there as well.

Richmond Bakery, at Richmond was always a must for us as well.

Hello boys,
my trip round south part of Earth was great! We discovered a bit of Darwin, and Sydney was great. Tasmania is awesome. We put into GPS shortest trips, so we enjoyed gravel a lot. New Zealand is beautiful. We drove around 4000 km at your right side and I am so glad I visited birthplace of my Moke. We also canceled trip over Beijing because of a virus and fly back over Quatar and Vienna.
See you next time boys !
