Terry, thanks also for pointing out that the choke cable "terminator" is the incorrect one.

Looks like someone has had a real "go" at this Moke in the past.

I'll see if I can get the correct part from Minisport when I next order some bits and pieces.

Hi,

good to see you have made progress.

In this picture the mixture adjustment 'nut' appears to be turned down quite a way so that might explain the richness of the mixture.

Thanks for that Terry. I'll adjust the mixture a bit more.

After lunch we took the Moke for a quick spin along the beach road and it was going really badly. Noticed a bit of hesitation and the temperature was up above normal. Got home and lifted the bonnet to find that I had forgotten to reconnect the vacuum advance pipe when I put the carb back on. That will do it.

What an idiot. :-[ :-[

Good Morning Mokers,

Well I've got some good news this morning. The Moke stood overnight so everything was nice and cold this morning. Pulled my choke cable out and after confirming by eye that it had moved the jet tube, I gave the key a quick twist and the Moke fired into life with ease.

So looks like whatever was preventing my jet tube from free movement is now resolved.

I'm still not 100% happy with the movement of the choke cable, but as Terry has pointed out, the trunnion bolt that currently fixes the cable to the carb is not the correct one. It doesn't allow for any rotation as the cable angle changes. I suspect this is what is causing the solid core choke cable to bind up and is the reason why someone has fitted a big external return spring on the choke mechanism.

It will do for now until I get the correct part and then I can hopefully banish the return spring to my parts bin.

My sincere thanks to Terry and Dave for once again generously sharing their knowledge and experience.

Happy Mokeing All.

Cheers, Gordon
