Total floor pan replace / removing BT
« on: July 31, 2020, 03:03:05 PM »
Hi guys
Facing a total floor pan replacement. Have floor in hand.
Has any one had experience removing the Bermuda Triangle? And stitch welding the new floor vertically upward to the inner hull spot welds?
Thoughts on structural integrity, and bracing from inside box section.
Any experiences appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by  "Removing the Bermuda triangle ". I can send you detail photos of the floors and subframe mounts I have just replaced if it will help.

Hi,

there are a few posts that include diagrams of the BT and how the metal is supposed to look.

What sort of repair you do really depends on how bad is what you have to start with and some photos will help people give you some advice.

My general thoughts are people are too quick to replace the whole floor some of that from not understanding whats involved or just reading the pitch from people selling the replacement pieces. I have two piece of floor panel here someone had purchased that simply weren't up to the job so they had their own made up that dealt with the issues of BT.

I have seen some where the BT has been removed, not sure what it does to the rigidity of the moke body but I don't think it would be
much of a reduction without it due to it's small size.

pic below of how the BT originally looked

and how it looks when repaired

replacing the whole floor is a big job and risky if you weld the new one in without holding the body square.

do you have any pics of the floor as it is?
