Coloured engines
« on: December 06, 2020, 07:48:03 AM »

I received an email yesterday regarding whether Mokes where fitted with a blue engine in 1972 in response to some question on a Facebook page a thought I would share my answer here as I people may not be aware of the Export engines.

I haven't seen or noticed any Blue engines particularly in Mokes but I do have a few engines here from that early 70's period that are black block with a common green rocker cover.

However the Export Mokes did come out with 'color-coded' or matching steering wheels and engine colours to the rest of the car. Whether it was an orderable option or they just did a run of them I don't know but I recall it is mentioned in the literature of the time. Of the 4.5 Export Mokes I own, 3 have their original engine and two of them the engine colour matches the colour of the car.

That's quite the customization.  There are probably very few vehicles of any kind that were built with colour matched engines.  Mokes are always ahead of the curve though.
