The Mokes do Hay.
« on: June 10, 2009, 07:01:03 PM »
Hi,

Just having a look through the results of the Hay Mini Nationals and it seems it should be called the Hay Moke Nationals :)

http://miniclubsa.asn.au/docs/2009%20HAY%20RESULTS%20with%20formulas.pdf

In the Outright section Mokes take up 8 out of the top 10, in fact the Minis only take up position 4th and 9th, with Gary Kotzur(SA), Josh Axford(SA) and Daryl Heydon(NSW) taking out the podium placings with their Mokes.

Kyoda, finished with an outright 14th place behind another Moke and two Mini's and some way ahead of husband/son Wayne in the Moke so it was probably a quiet trip home in that car. Kyoda also managed a 2nd in her class also.

1st Place in Class E(and i have no idea what Class E means) was Adam Oakley who is from the VMCI and some may remember him on the skid pan at the Muster as he was one of the last to leave. :)

The www.moke.com.au sponsored Mini, well actually he just has a couple of the website stickers on the Mini because I lent Matt a carby and a Trailer for the 2007 event and he picked the stickers up for me while I fitted the carby, came in at 32nd out of the field of 100.

The other name I recognise on the list is Pooee of Ausmini.com fame, who in a Subaru WRX would have placed 60th had his times be included in the outright listings. Probably wishes he took a Mini, or had his Moke finished and not wasted his time in an obvious dog of a car :)

If I remember correctly Class E is a non-Mini front-wheel drive.

Adam and Jeremy Coakley are brothers and share the Moke.  Last I heard the Moke was broken in some way. :(

EDIT: I WANTED to go this year, but I couldn't do MokeFest and Hay, so MokeFest won out.

Cheers,

G'day Guys
It certainly looked wet and muddy at Hay.
Wouldn't it have been fun just to let loose in the paddock
and go nuts. But well done every body who went and
participated.

It was a very wet and slippery in the morning  but started to dry out a little in the afternoon, a total contrast to the dust last year.

I've been told by the boss that we're taking the Moke next year (instead of the mini), and was told that "it needs to have some poke off the line, and a good handbrake". reading between the lines I think this means i have approval for a 1275..well.. i can dream :)

Hope to see you all there next year

Dream the dream and plan the plan.  Good luck with the 1275,  I am also working on the dream and are trying to work out a plan.

Let's hope you dreams develop and keep us up with them if you have sucsess.

Cheers

The Mini Nationals was a top weekend - albeit wet and muddy.
The khana didn't start until after midday last Sunday. The grounds were soooo boggy it was hard to even walk without slipping over. Hay had received over 100mm of rain in the previous 5 days. Great for the farmers - not great for the khana grounds.
The property owner Ian Lugsdon brought out his backhoe and tried to 'scrape' the mud off the surface so the cars could get some sort of traction.

The usual 6 tests were reduced to four and after a very slippery start the tests ended up being very sticky and lots of fun by late in the afternoon.
My husband and I took two cars to Hay this year - our Moke and a Mini K. We came home with 6 trophies. Those being - The Moke won its class in the show and shine as did the Mini K, which also took out people choice. At the khana I picked up fastest lady and second in the Moke class, with my husband Wayne picking up fourth in class. The third driver in our Moke was also 10th outright. I finished 14th outright which I was rapt about with 103 starters in the khana.

Here are some pics of the show and shine and khana action.

These two didn't even make it in to the carpark.

The Spiro Slalom all ready to go.

Our Teflon Moke at the end of the khana. The mud just didn't stick.

The best way to stay out of the mud.  :o

Yes - I got rained on.

Hi

Thanks for the pictures Kyoda. Kinda glad i didn't try camping up there for the weekend now :)

For those who know of the 'Endrust Moke' from the '78 round Australia Rally the actually Moke is the white Moke you see in the first two images.

G'day Kyoda,
Nice pics and a nice haul of trophies, well done.
Mud would have to be better than dust i would think. How
many mokes were at Hay in total and do you have any pics
of them?

                   cheers Smokey

Yes - I did prefere the mud to the dust of last year.

There were 15 Mokes by my count. I'll see if I can round up a few more pics of them.

Hi,

At the Mini Show I did catch up with the www.moke.com.au sponsored Mini of my friend Matt and noticed a couple of trophies on his dashboard and one of them was first in class and the other was winner of Hay's Hero's 2009 which is a run off between the top two cars/drivers in each category.

Matty managed to get the fastest time and went into the final and regular winner Craig Williams clipped a flag leaving Pottsy of the VMCI to become runner up behind Matt.

None of my bits on his Mini this year but I reckon the www.moke.com.au stickers on the windows just gave it that edge he needed to win. :)
