Also the ear pieces blocked out a fair bit of noise

I noticed that too coming home from Mokefest.
Had the ears down and hood over my head, the roar of the wind/ powerhouse of an engine turned into a mild hum and the music became clearer due to not having all the other sounds.

I have a similar hat with flaps down over the ears I picked up at Aussie Disposals.  The first time I used it the strap broke and I finished the journey with one hand on the wheel and one hand holding the hat on.  (You can't do that in a manual!)

It's now fixed and seems quite effective.
