The Donkey developed a "Knock" under load a couple of weeks ago. Boydey is the only one who knows how much load it was under.
It annoyed him enough to pop the engine out and strip it down.

Some over heating coming home from Jervis bay may have played a part, a slightly bent push rod, but nothing really stood out. Everything else looked very serviceable and in good nic.
New pistons, rings, bearings and a timing chain were ordered and as soon as they arrived were fitted.

Other than some lint from a rag on the piston, looking really good.
Then we pulled out the dial indicator and protractor to check cam timing. Damn it! We need an offset woodruff key to correct it. We had a 3 degree key but needed more so had to wait till the Monday to order it and then wait for it to arrive  ::). So Tuesday arvo after work, 20 minutes later the timing was correct at around 106 degrees, cover was fitted and Boydey could get on with the rest of the partial rebuild.

We did find the long centre branch exhaust had a crack nearly all the way around where the outer two pipes joined. Gee, wonder if that may have contributed to the sound ?

Anyway, Boydey is dropping it back in tommorrow, I'm sure it will be fine when he cranks it over in the arvo !

Hi,

if he has trouble starting it I would check the spark plug leads first. :)

Cutting it a bit fine.

It was WIFI wasnt it boidiey?
Boidee has been shed bound today, too wet to mow the lawns!
I gave him a hand to fit and bolt a few things up today. He was really close to finishing heading into beer o'clock, so I left him to his own devices.
And tonight Boidey is actually re wrapping the exhaust before fitting it all up. Hope there is no Glad wrap involved this time though  ;D

Choice words indeed from you Terry  ;)

Many of us have seen how close you have left things till just before leaving home ;D, ( Not unlike some of us others  ::) )
Will most likely only be a weekender to Hay anyway!. Will be lots of broken donor vehicles laying around for us just incase we need some spares
, not likely, but ...... just in case.
