SEQ/NSW Border Run Chat
« on: May 16, 2011, 09:35:54 PM »
Very jealous Dean. This is a run I really want to do in a Moke. TLP and I were actually contemplating it when we ran into a bit of trouble with his Green Moke and he didn't want to risk the other one.............. It's going to be a pretty long day drive though - better start early  :).

Grandparents had a property at Upper Tooloom which was where I was introduced to Moking as a pre-teen. Have done those roads many, many times, but would love to do the run in a Moke. The one I was introduced to was rudely traded in on a 4WD long before I got my licence :'(

The dirt road between Emu Creek and Upper Tooloom would be unreal fun and also very scenic  :)

Too short a notice for me to make it I'm afraid as I've seriously overbooked myself for the next couple of months  :'( :'( :'(

Hope you all have a ball. Want lots of pics :)

Newie

PS. I can check with a good bush mechanic I know who lives between Upper Tooloom and Urbenville to see if he'll be around that weekend if you like. Might be good insurance when you're that far from home. PM me if you want.

365km round trip from Beaudesert Nicko, but these are not fast roads. Google maps  estimates 2.25 hours for the 61km of dirt. That's a bit over the top IMO, but I'd be allowing at least 1.5hours (1 is more fun though  ;D). A bit dependant on what the weather's been like lately and how long it's been since they last put a grader over it  ;D

I'd be guessing 5 or 6 hours round trip from Beaudesert in a Moke, but that's as long as you pretty much keep moving  :-\ As I said, a long day - particularly for those who live a little way from Beaudesert  :-\

Thanks Newie.  It's time I had a play with Google maps, one of those computery things I can't seem to get my head around.

Add an hour each way to Beaudesert, that makes it about 7/8 hours driving.
Better make sure the Ipod is fully charged and we have a big bag of lollies for those in the back :-\

don't realy on the batteries for the trip home, wire in a cheap inverter and get them to take the mains power. Better to be safe than have winginge billy lids on the way home.

We're going to change the route for this run to something shorter, keep an eye on the main topic for details.
The Tabulam run is now going to be a separate 2 day run in the near future.

Sounds like a great trip, Moke, taking in some beautiful scenery. We'll meet at Maroon Dam on the 5th, intending to stay at Rathdowney overnight after a leisurely run down the Mt Lindesay Highway on the Saturday, just to give us a headstart from Lamb Island. It will be good to catch up, so hope everything goes ahead and the weather stays good. With no hood at the moment we won't be running in the rain!
Otherwise, see you next week - Clockwork Orange (aka Jim & Kim)

Hi Moke
We're staying at the Rathdowney Hotel (got the last room apparently - only just booked it a minute ago). Its on Collins St., just off the the Mt Lindesay Highway. I'm sure its a standout. Your mobile no. would be great. I can send you mine too, if I can figure out how to do a PM email.

Many thanks and really looking forward to the run. Here's to a good turnout - we'll be coming even if it rains, 'cos we've rigged up an old hood.

Cheers
Clockwork

Hi Clockwork,
Yes, I know the hotel, it's the only one in town so you can't miss it  ;D.
Did you get my PM?
