Beware of Denim Seat Cover Sales on eBay
« on: June 18, 2012, 09:38:38 AM »
Hi everyone

Just thought I'd spread the "good oil" on the tombstone seat covers someone is selling on eBay.

The seller who was charging $355 per set has dropped his price to $200.

My advice is to hold off purchasing any of these - if you wait long enough he will drop the price again.

Anyone who already purchased off him - he said "tough luck"   ::)

The quality is dubious in my opinion.

I only can speak for the set I purchase Mav which were for the late model tombstones - I have not seen the earlier nonsliding model covers.

The seller's behaviour is worse than the seat quality - how someone sells stuff at a premium one week and then cuts the price in half the next without offering any compensation to the folks he fleeced the week before is not someone I want to deal with and I thought I would warn other members before they get involved.

I tried to get a local auto trimmer to install the new covers. This is where I was shown the difference between good and poor quality.  They declined to put them on the seats for me and they don't believe they fit the same as the originals.

What aspects of the covers lack quality SA?
Is it the material, stitching, actual size/shape?

Just to clarify why we should be cautious in making a purchase.

Your trimmer says they don't fit the same as the originals- can they still be fit even though
they are fit a different way? Or is it that they won't fit properly even once fitted?

Why would he be obligated to give you any form of 'compensation'?

At the time that was his asking price and you agreed to purchase his items at that price. For whatever reason he has dropped the price whether he wasn't selling many or he got a bigger order and was able to pass on his savings to his buyers. He may well just be trying to get rid of stock before the EOFY as most retailers are that this time of year.

Your logic is like buying oil from repco this week and next week they have it on special- would you take it back and ask for a discount post making the purchase?

It does sound like a bit of a 'tough luck' situation and I know we have all checked a brochure the week after making a purchase to either see them cheaper somewhere else or on sale and thought- bugger.

Anyways

I've seen this guys ads and it does say that it is a MOKE seat replacement cover. Going from SA's Trimmer's comments, it would seem that these replacement covers are not fit for purpose and not as described. If that is the case, then under ebay's rules, SA is entitled to a refund.

Oh I agree- if the product is not as described then he is entitled to a full refund.
And it is against eBay rules for the seller to refuse.

From his initial post I interpreted it as him wanted compensation because he paid
$350 last week and this week they are $200.

Fair enough, I see that. If that's the case, then regrettably it will be tough titties for SA.

As some of you know I make the sling type cushions for Mokes and I sell one set of 2 cushions for $199-90. I make a modest profit on these and I cannot figure out how this seller can offer Tombstone covers for $200 unless they were made in China and of really cheap quality materials. I suggest anyone considering buying these take the advice of the forum...buyer beware...if it is too good to be true...... IslandMoke

It appears this guy/lady is also selling the sling type seat cushions. I cannot tell much from the photo so if anyone gets a look at one let me know. I suspect the quality of these will be similar to the Tombstone covers. IsleMoke

Until the seller drops his price by half...and you find out you have just been screwed..

I'd be pissed too...
