Unread post
« on: August 15, 2012, 04:50:14 PM »
HI All,

Like most I use the unread aspect as it saves trolling through every section, The problem is that when I have read a post, the main paqe still has the left side folder thinggy highlighted as if I have not read all the post. This only ocurrs sometimes and mainly in the Moke help and garage folders, If I click on mark all messages as read, it goes away but then afterwards does come back.

I use the unread post button all the time too AC/SA, but can't say I've ever had that problem. Am I right in assuming you're reading (or at least clicking on) all of the Unread Posts that come up?

Not much help to you though I'm afraid as it's not my area of expertise. I'm afraid you'll have to wait for Terry or Maddog to get time to look at it.

Hi,

The problem used to appear a few years ago and tends to be related to the persons computer/browser settings and the way in which they look at the posts, which may or may not be the case here.

Next time you see the Unread icon on a board browse through the first couple of pages of posts and see if you can find the post that is unread just to make sure there is really an unread post and post back here.

OK Terry here you go - I go into Unread posts where there is one and read it.

Then I navigate back using the Home button - and the unread post flag next to In The Garage where the post I just read lives.

That flag will not disappear until I go in there - of course there are no new posts - then the flag disappears.

Im afraid not Terry - it has nothing to do with that

Case in point - I once again went to unread posts and read each one - then went back to the Home page to observe the new post flags still there

Then I logged on via the iPad and the flags are still there

Then I logged on via the iPhone and the flags are still there

Hi,

Then you need to go into the ATG board, or which ever boards are being flagged, and page through the index looking for the thread that still has the 'new' icon appearing against it.

Just looking at the board only removes the 'Board has an Unread post' flag for this visit but the New post is still there, hence when you visit again it reprocesses the boards with unread posts and turns the flag on again. It doesn't go away until you actually view the post which updates a flag in the data base.

It is different processing to the 'Unread Posts' page which appears to rely on some info in your Cookie.

Nope - there are only 23 posts in Forum Questions - I first go to unread and read your thread - go out to Home and the flag against forum questions is lit up - I am not crazy and I do understand but I think it is a bug in the software as I have read every thread - proving the above is not true

Hi,

Is anyone else having the same problem as described here?

If so, and for AC and SA Mokin, can you please post up here which boards the 'New Post' icon is re-appearing on?

Hi,

Okay, I shall check it out but it might not be for 24 hours, got a long night in the shed trying to get DS out for an event tomorrow.

Next time you see it pop up when you don't think it should, click the 'Mark Read' link at the bottom of the page and then reply here or send me a PM to tell me what time you clicked Mark Read.

HI Terry,

11:04pm is when I hit the read all button, it was the normal one around the garage but this time, the trading post one was active as well
